Hotel Okura Tokyo, Japanese Brocade patchwork,Ball room, the report about traditional Japanese design in the modern hotel, vol.2 Tokyo, Japan
The modern Japanese patchwork to meet the ancient
old cloths
The Brocade cloth was very important
products in Far East and south eastern Asia. Some designs as the fight scene with
lion were originally come from Ancient Persian dynasty coming through the Silk
Road. A lot of designs were woven with gold or silver thread to produce the luxury
cloth.
In Japanese Kimono style, the ladies put on
an obi which was woven by the technique of Brocade. Obi is the straight, 3.6
meter cloth tied as belt. The contrast between Kimono and Obi is a tradition in
Japaneese culture.
From this patchwork, you will find the coordination
(Awase in Japanese) of colour in Kimono and Obi, which is the most important
part on wearing Kimono. The colour, pattern or design of the cloth will be necessary
to coordinate the Kimono.
You can enjoy the whole of the patchwork
and also any part of that. The colour and pattern of the cloth will nicely
match each other.
the centre part colour like brown is originated from the cloth at Horyuji temple.
